SafeCo RightTrack Review! Should You Do It?

Safeco RightTrack Review! Everything You Need To Know…

YouTube video

I’m going to give you a review of Safeco’s RightTrack product. This is a product that’s designed to give you the discount you deserve if you’re better than the average driver.

Should You Get it?

Let me ask you this question, are you better than the average driver? Do you drive safer than the average driver? If that is the case, if that’s you, don’t you deserve the discount you ought to get? All insurances are rated based on the average driver. They take all the drivers that are insured with them and they average them out. And then they give a rate based on the amount of claimed activity that they have over the average. Well, if you’re better than the average, then that means you’re paying what the average is instead of a better rate. Well, this is your opportunity to claim the discount you deserve.

What factors contribute to the discount?

What are the things that it’s looking for? One is, they’re looking that if you accelerate hard or you brake hard. If you’re braking really hard when you get to a stop sign or to a signal light or are you accelerating hard whenever you’re leaving those. Those are both going to be things that they’re going to rank harder, which means they’re going to not give you as good of a “score” or discount if you frequently do those things while driving.

Another thing is they’re going to look at how much do you drive? Are you driving hundreds of miles every day? More? Less? The more miles that you drive, they’re potentially not going to give you as much of a discount. Another factor is, what time of day are you driving? If you’re frequently driving between midnight and 4:00 AM, those are times whenever it is more likely that you will have a claim, or more likely you’ll have an accident. They’re going to give that a lower score. Now, they’re going to average this over a period of time, depending on the state you are in, anywhere from 30 days to 6 months. One of the things that I really like about their program is that you’re not going to get a deduction. When I say deduction, what I mean is you’re not going to get charged more because of how you drive. You’re going to get at least the discount, at least 5%, probably more.

How much can I save?

In our office, we see on average, a 19% discount. That’s across all ages that participate in the program, young drivers, all the way up to senior citizens. The lowest we’ve seen has been the 5%. Then the highest we’ve seen has been 30%. But there’s been very few that get that, that’s pretty hard to get up to that point. But we do see quite a lot of them that do get above 20%. And all you have to do is just install an app on your phone and drive.

What are the other benefits?

You install the app and you start driving and you’re better than the average, just natural, already, you just are. You’re going to get the discount that you deserve. 5%, 10% 20%, whatever. And you’re going to keep that discount for as long as you are a Safeco client. Even if you trade your car in for another one, still, you’re going to keep that discount for as long as you are a Safeco client. 10 years, 20 years, the rest of your life, you will keep that discount.

Another thing that’s in it for you is let’s say that you’ve got a family member that maybe their driving needs a little bit of help. This will help you to monitor and maybe do some coaching to them to say, “Hey, look, it’s saying that you’re stopping hard a lot. Just maybe approach the signal lights or approach the intersections a little bit easier. Instead of trying to accelerate through the intersections, why don’t be on guard, slow down just a little bit and just watch for those?”

You can use this as a contest where all your family members or you and your friends are competing against each other to see who can get the highest discount. Well, I got 19%, well, I got 23%. And you can just do that to see who ends up with the biggest discount. If you got people that are struggling, maybe it may actually teach them better habits as you’re moving forward.

How You Can Start Saving!

Well, first, you have to have an auto policy with Safeco and “opt-in” to the RightTrack program. It will ask you if you would like to participate when you are first being quoted. After that, you just download the app and it’s all on your phone. It’s really super simple. I’ve got an iPhone and you just do a search for Safeco RightTrack. The app looks like this:

Safeco RightTrack - Apps on Google Play

You’re going to get a code from Safeco whenever we sign you up, that’s going to activate this for you. You’ll get one code per person that’s in the program. One code doesn’t work just necessarily for everybody.

What about my privacy? I don’t want to be tracked!

A couple of things to think about is you think about privacy, right? Everybody’s concerned about privacy, but here’s the deal… Safeco’s not going to sell your information to anybody. They’re using it strictly to give you the discount that you deserve. Second is, if you’ve got a cell phone, an iPhone, Android, or whatever else, they’re tracking you already. Not to mention, depending on what car you have, they may be tracking you. They’re tracking you and those people are reselling your information. Safeco’s not doing that, they’re just simply trying to give you the discount that you deserve because you are a better driver than the average. So they’re not following you, they’re not trying to see where you’ve been or anything like that. And also your family members can’t necessarily just see that either. But anyway, it’s a good app.

Why does the app have terrible reviews?

Looking at it, it’s got 18,000 reviews and 4.6 out of 5 stars! If you take a look at it, and if you’re into reading reviews, you’ll see that there some negative reviews, right? There’s one from two years ago that says “disappointed”. They had it and it didn’t give them all the miles that they drove. Maybe there was a little bit of a problem there, maybe they had their GPS turned off on their phone for a period of time and it wasn’t able to track them. It may or may not be able to do that.

Another one says, “Lane map’s only benefit is the Safeco. With my 90-day trial, I ended up with… And it appears that my average essential permitted discount has been applied regardless of how carefully I drove.” Here’s the deal, but the guy still got a discount, right? I mean, okay. It sounds like he was not able to qualify for a higher discount, but at least he got the minimum discount. You’re going to get a discount, no matter what, it’s not going to charge you more. So if you get the discount, then what does it hurt to go ahead and just do it?

There are other reviews too, one of them I know talks about, what am I supposed to do at a yellow light? Am I supposed to accelerate through it or stop hard at it? Remember that it’s going to average that information. And sometimes you’re going to get dinged. It’s just going to happen. But if it’s happening, well, then maybe there is something wrong with your driving. Maybe you need to adjust something with your driving. If on average, you’re having a hard time with accelerating and also with braking, look, there’s tons of time where you can modify that driving. So just be aware of it, watch the app when you first start. And if you see that you’re consistently having issues with hard braking, and fast accelerating, then just adjust your driving. Be more careful over the period of time. What’s the worst that’s going to happen? You’re going to get a better discount. And also you may get better driving habits. There’s nothing for you to lose.

Out of all of the reviews, I think this one sums it up the best:

I hope this has helped you. I hope that it helped you to understand the ins and outs of Safeco’s RightTrack product, and also encourage you to go ahead and give it a try. It’s a great product. I personally use it with my insurance. I am with Safeco, I’m a Safeco client. I’ve been so for about 12 years. My wife and I both tried it, and we both got around a 20% discount. I’ve been highly satisfied with the product. And I’ve got tons of friends and tons of clients that have also done it that has also in like kind, gotten large discounts that they deserved.
